.25 Model 141

Post by babean »

I have read in various places that the Model 141 was never made in .25, but I have one that was my grandfather's with a serial number 2049. The 'ED' letter stamps on the barrel indicate that it was made in October 1935. Am I overlooking something?

I keep a database on 141s and have 2 other 25s listed. Both of the others were made in August, 1935. All of the guns made in this time frame were fitted with model 14 barrels that were being used up. I also have an instruction book that came with 4509, made in May, 1936, and the booklet pictures the 141 with a 14 barrel and lists the calibers as 25, 30, 32, & 35. I assume your receiver is not marked "Gamemaster" and the barrel is a model 14 barrel. You can contact me direct at hemphill@gvtel.com for further questions. tom

Tom H--Thanks for the reply. After looking through all 32 pages of posts I had learned that this was probably a 'transition' period rifle made in 1935. You're correct that the receiver is not stamped 'Gamemaster', but how do I tell if it's a Model 14 barrel, by barrel length? It's 21 1/4" from muzzle to receiver.

I have only 17 141Rs listed, serial in the 8000-39000 range. None are 25s. 8 are 30s, 6 32s, and 3 35s. I would doubt that there is one but who knows with Remington. If a special order would lead to a sale, they would have been inclined to do it in those days. I have a 25R SRC, and know of another in Argentina, and no such thing was ever offered in their literature. Also, we have found a 14½R with the DCP marking, making it one of the 4000 sent to Britain in World War I. Those were all supposed to be rifles according to the records. So if a 141R in 25 Remington were to appear as one of these exceedingly rare carbines, I would be surprised, but realize that this company has produced surprises us before.....tom h
