870 NEW- Already problems???

Post by Elkabong »

Hey guys, i just picked up my 870 express, smoking deal at big 5, its a 6+1. Beautiful shotgun, first i've ever owned. I tend to go home and take them apart and check them out the best i can, read manuals and all.

I cant fire it around here freely but racking it in my room, i've ran into two problems. With the snap caps i purchased, nice ones w/ springs inside and all, for a 12g. I put two in, hit the forehand release, it racks the caps but IT WONT FIRE. Unracks and loads the next w/o the release button, WONT FIRE.?? Anyone know?? They match up well w/ the shells i have. Nothing about this in the Owners Manual and as i understand the difference in sizes refers to the charge length of the shell, not even the overall or width, so???

Next, i bought a box of Remington 2 3/4 12g 1oz. slugs. Load a few of them up. Hit the release, rack the first round (DIDNT FIRE), go to rack the next round and it wont release the forehand grip, so i cant load the next shell.

My question's are mainly has anyone else had the issue with snap caps or no dry firing w/ this action AND if the 870 action isnt suppose to rack again w/o using the release button unless you fire the round?? The guy at the store did it with snap caps(like i can) but he didn't fire them either so who knows if they were kinda like mine? Maybe id be able to figure this out easier if i could go through a couple rounds, but id really like to know before i get a few hours into labor day camping trip and it has to perform. Thanks for any reading and any info you guys could help me out with. Glad to join the community!

I have gotten a chance to run a few hundred rounds through it. Its a blast! I did start experiencing ejecting issues if you speed fire it too much. Heat? Is it a bad call to put a cylinder choke barrel and action through that kinda heat cycling?

Anyone know of a good recoil dampening shoulder pad for the express models? I read a few reviews on midway claiming the express has a different sized stock butt then the non-express?
