Nylon 76 barrel code I don't understand

Post by mikerjf »

Hi!

I'm new to the forum. I've been viewing for about a year now. Lots of good information in here. Thanks.

I finally joined because I've got a question regarding a nylon 76 I saw. I don't understand the date code and was hoping someone could help. The attached picture indicates it's TX, doesn't make sense to me?

Thanks again

Mike

Are we talking about the lever action nylon rifle. The date code would be "CT" or "OT"-you'll have to determine the first letter as its not really clear as it looks to be double stamped. If its the lever action, nothing lines up!

Yes, it's the lever action. I think you're right. I was looking at the T and the X buried in the lower right corner (TX). The first character is what looks like a C stamped over a proof mark (I thought it was a 6) and the second character is the T, That would make it April 1970 which makes no sense either. Maybe it's a replacement barrel?

Thanks

For as easy as it is to do, I agree. I never even thought of a replacement barrel. Heck, I believe all it takes is to release the screws, loosen the barrel lug screw and zip zap, its done!

I also have a Nylon 76 Lever action with a barrel code I don't understand.
It is stamped kk 52.
I understand the kk to indicate May of 1963 as the manufacture date.
What is the signifcance of the 52?
thanks

Odd that it would be 2 characters, but the final one after the year is the assembler.

Someone else suggested that the 5 indicated an Remington Employee owned rifle and the second digit (2) indicated a factory repair number of some type.
Does this make sense?

The barrel in the pic is NOT the original. Yes they are easy to change and thats whats been done. It should be an I, J, or K for the lever guns as they were made from 62-64. If there are any other letters I have always been told that was to show the date of a repair job. I have a Nylon with 5 letters on the barrel. As for the numbers I've never got a clear answer. But have heard its an inspection number or a batch number.

I thought it was J,K L for 1962 thru 1964, they didn't use an I in the 60's?
