Remington 760 barrel finsih

Post by kpp80202 »

I found a really cool, older model Remington 760 with a Weaver KV on it in excellent shape. It is a pre-basket weave checkered version. The weird thing is that the barrel doesn't have a high polished blue finish. Rather, it looks a bit like a rough casting, with "pits" all around it. I don't mean rust pits, but something more like a consistent pattern on the whole thing, with the whole thing blued evenly, and appropriately worn from mild use. The receiver has perfect finish, in contrast, with a bit of normal wear on it. Has anyone seen anything like this? Was barrel finish normally like this?
