Newbie with a question...

Post by blackwinch »

Hello! I'm new around here and hope that I get to participate in some good conversations...
I spend some time over on rimfirecentral but, thought this might be the place to come with a true Remington question.
I have a friend who has a Model 12C that he thinks may be a 12C NRA.
Did Remington mark all of the 12C NRA as such on the flat or were some only marked 12C?
If anyone has any way of proving the rifles identity I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks!

In their book, "Remington .22 Rimfire Rifles", authors John Gyde and Roy Marcot describe this rifle as:

Model 12C “N.R.A. Target Grade”
First offered in 1918 at $27.75 retail. Same characteristics as the
Model 12C “Target” Rifle, including a 24 inch octagonal barrel.
Intended for .22 caliber Long Rifle rimfire ammunition only. Equipped
with Lyman elevating tang peep sight with cup disk and wind gauge
combination aperture rear sight, and hooded Lyman globe front sight.
No dovetail cut in barrel for rear sight. Sling strap attaches to swivel
on magazine tube. Weight is 6 lbs. 42 inches overall.

No mention is made of special marking. Possibly further information could come from owners

The lack of a dovetail is the most telling feature...
The one my friend has indeed has a rear sight in a dovetail.
Thanks!!!
