'73 Hammer Lifter.

Post by Aaron Robinson »

Hello all, recently joined the Society. My first post, so I apolgize if it goes awry at times. Acquired yesterday an 1873 Whitmore Hammer Lifter. (#3243, 10 gauge, steel barrel, grade 1.) It had an incorrect left hammer, a missing 2nd trigger guard screw and plug on the lifter, as well as one incorrect hammer screw.
Mr. Huber, my father Roger introduced me to you at the show, Lakeland Mirror Center.
It was a pleasure to meet you. You inspected the Whitmore. We had mentioned that I had found a '73 hammer a couple of years ago in Nashville, TN at a show. I thought it was a left, but wasn't sure. I kept my fingers crossed the whole trip back from Lakeland. Lo and behold, the hammer was a southpaw. I guess Ladyluck shines occasionally and we should be gratefull! Lol
So I mated left hammer, (#2878) to #3243. Everything else matches up positvely with #3243. She cleaned up well, just finished. This is the 3rd '73 we have in our collection, 4th overall. The other Whitmore is a bit haggard '79, but had to pick it up. For I've learned how rare they are. Most of my knowledge has been attained from Charles Semmer's excellent book. Thank you very much Mr. Semmer. Your book was a great Christmas gift 10 years ago or better. My passion for Remington doubles began many years ago with an 1882 that originally was my grandfather's. We currently have close to twenty. I'll post more in due time, for I have numerous questions. Along with providing data on those in our possession.
Cheers to you all.
