History of this Model 11 16 Guage

Post by NightStalker »

I've had an old Model 11 "The Sportsman" shotgun, I got from my father, sitting in closets for a very long time. I thought he had purchased it in Korea or somewhere in the 50's. I've seen 20 guage guns here on the boards, but not the 16 guage. Serial number is S200388, with three pheasants on the r/h side of the receiver, and three ducks on the l/h side.

I can't seem to find anything out on the Remington site about the manufacture date. If someone knows where I can look for information it would be appreciated.

You didn't look hard enough, the info is right here on this site. Your gun was one of the first few hundred 16-gauge Sportsman made. Looks like the week ending August 28, 1931, --

Thanks Researcher! I did see the book, but didn't know how to interpret the production run numbers. Once again, thanks for clearing this up. The shotgun look like new, stays lubed, and sits in the closet. I don't think it has been fire since...I remember Dad bringing ducks home in Texas circa 1955. Guess I'll pass it on, down the road.
