A number of years ago, I picked up a pretty good booklet at a gun show. Don't know if they are still in business, but it might be worth a try:

BTW, in the late '50's or early '60's my Dad who was a Remington Director, asked for M31 instructions , and they sent him the last set in their files with a note that said "Last Copy". I've still got that set in my files

The Great Bulk of Remington Model 31s are the 1941 version, and most Model 31s were made between the end of WW-II and October 1950 when the Model 870 was introduced. The The last serial number in the old factory ledger from pre WW-II is in the 406xx range in June 1942.

The 12 ga. Model 31s were numbered separately from the 16s and 20s (which were combined in the 500XXX range) so the highest 12 ga. #s are, I think, in the 12XXXX area. I used to have a Jan. '48 gun at 93XXX so I think your numbers seem normal.
