My 7600 collectable - an uncataloged 7600 35Whelen carbine - not a Grice issue either.

What's the barrel date code on that 7600 .35 Whelen carbine? (when was it made?)

I hope you folks can help me out with a 740 issue. The rifle is a 1955 model (PB), and it has a small hole drilled on the edge of the curvature of the receiver, well behind the rear factory scope base drilling. It measures .110 wide, and is .165 deep at the deepest point, and just .060 deep at the shallowest point. It is 1.2" behind the the rear hole for the scope mount.
I can only think it was a relief drilled for the elevation slide on a peep sight, but there are no sight mounting holes nearby, and it seems way too far behind the scope base holes to accommodate a peep sight. Due to the curvature of the drilling surface, it would have been done at the factory or by a very competent 'smith. following is a link to a picture that will show in detail what I am describing. You may have to copy it into a browser to make it work.

btw, gene was a great help to me with a 742 in my collection. it is in 6mm, and has the factory "6mm Rem Mag" stamp with "mag" X'd out. Pretty rare, I think it is the 3rd one Gene has heard of.
thanks for any help you can give me.
