Model 11, model and age?

Post by smallgamer »

Hello everyone at Remington Society. I've recently aquired a few older Remingtons. The one I am very curious about is a Model 11, serial number 860XX. The barrel and receiver share the same number. The barrel is also marked D43 on the bottom, "full" on the left side, "RP" in an oval on the right, and it has a rib. The stock and forearm have no checkering. There is no engraving of any type on the receiver, not even "Remington" or the Model name.I have checked the info on this website re: dating Remingtons and have been unable to find information regarding this serial number. Any information would be appreciated.

Well, I did some searching and discovered that this particular firearm was manufactured in 1910. Originally I was thinking of selling it to make a couple of bucks but now I'm thinking it would be really cool to take a turkey and shoot a bit of trap with a 100 year old gun. Obviously 2 3/4" ammo, but can this gun safely handle a modern turkey load? Can anyone help with my other question re: grade? Thank you.

Without any engraving and no checkering it would be a grade1 or A. Base model. Be sure to set the friction ring/bronze friction piece to the "heavy" setting. It should cylce most modern "light" loads on that setting. Would be best to stick to 1 1/8 ounce loads (max) but a few 1 1/4 oz high brass loads should be OK, depending on the condition of the gun.

Should be a fun gun. That old Full choke will most likely shooter tighter than that. Patterning the gun is the only way to know. Should be fine for what you want to do.
