Thanks,

Remington Manufacture Dates

Post by faaaaaaq »

Here is a site where you can put in the two or three letter code to determine the manufacture date. Look on the left side of the barrel where it meets the receiver and you will find a two (sometimes three) letter code. The first letter is the month and the second (or possibly second and third) letter designates the year. Hope this helps.

The Remington Society site (where your reading this response) also has a description of this through 1972.

Thanks very much for the info. I looked at the barrel of this gun and on the left side of the barrel are the letters marked BXK. Looks like there is a fourth letter but can't make it out. Looked at the links you suggested but they dont make sense on the date for this rifle. B is January and X is 1929.

The gun I own is a model 700 in 7mm rem mag. The barrel says
7MM REM MAG.
Stainless Steel.

S/N 908XX. Does anyone have info on this Rifle?

Thanks,
Dan

Great, thanks rem141.

Is there a link or a book that would give me the date of manufacture based on the S/N.

Also, I'm in need of the front sight for this gun. Do you or anyone else know how I can go about finding one?

Thanks.

rem141 wrote:I would suggest that the date code is XK, the B being the inspectors stamp. That stamp can be a symbol, letter or number. XK would be Dec 1963 which is in the serial number range of your gun. The symbol, letter or number on the right side of the date code is the assemblers mark.
Would this rifle I own be considered a plain M700 without the BDL or ADL designation?

Thanks again for the info. Looks like I have the Model 700 BDL Custom Deluxe. I see the floorplate and the black forend. In-between the black forend and the stock is a white spacer. Same with near the Butt of the stock. Through-out the stock is a fancy knurling design.

I'm going to shoot some 162gr handloads through it and I will let you know how this old Dog shoots.
