Remington 12-C
Remington 12-C
I am new to this posting procedure. Can anyone tell me where I can find a assembly/disassembly procedures for a Remington 12-C. I have NRA and Gun Digest disassembly books for rimfire rifles.
The 12-C is not listed in either book. I would like to find a Lyman tang sight for this rifle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if this will help, but you can download this manual and see.

As far as the Lyman R12 tang sight goes........be prepared to dig deep and good luck finding one. I have one on the Model 12C that I have, but it's not for sale.

Wulfman,
Thanks for the info, however I have found the assembly/disassembly in the NRA #3 book. Am still looking for Lyman tang sight.

Re: Remington 12-C
Guys, thanks for all the help. I now have the disassembly instructions and the Lyman tang sight is ordered and on the way.
Re: Remington 12-C
Completely disassembled my 12-C. Cleaned and lubed it and mounted the Lyman tang sight that I received today. Now I'm just waiting for the local wind to die down. Question: Should I just shoot standard velocity and match ammo or is high velocity ammo OK? The serial number of this 98% rifle is 564963.

Re: Remington 12-C
Hey! Only shoot standard velocity in your 12-C.
Re: Remington 12-C
I've heard that, too.....but only recently. Back in the 1950's and 60's, I grew up shooting my father's 1923 vintage 12 C (SN 614XXX) with high-velocity ammo......because that's all that was readily available where I lived and nobody was there to advise us differently......and never had a problem with it. In fact, it's still in good shooting condition.remington600 wrote:Hey! Only shoot standard velocity in your 12-C.
I have a 1928 vintage 12 C and have also used high-velocity ammo in it with no problems......and have no reservations about continuing to use it in that rifle.
With the cost of ammo these days and the lack of availability of almost ANYTHING, the thousands of rounds of high-velocity ammo I have squirreled away will have to do (if or when I choose to shoot it). These days, I shoot very sparingly.
Your call.

I once drove my motorcycle at 115 mph with no problems. That does not mean I should continue doing so.
One of the reasons Remington replaced the M/12 with the M/121 was to "beef up" the breechbolt to handle the new hi-vel (and higher pressure) ammo. The M/12 was introduced in 1909 when .22 rf pressures were much lower. I have shot modern ammo in a M/12 also, but I quit when I learned about the pressures. It would be a shame to ruin a nice M/12 for the cost difference between hi-vel and standard vel ammo. Why not shoot the ammo on hand in a newer rifle and buy a box or two of the more expensive stuff for the M/12???

Re: Remington 12-C
Guys, I thank all of you for the replies to my questions. I appreciate the info about high velocity vs standard and match ammo. My rifle is 98+%, so I'll error on the side of caution and stay with standard and match ammo. I've had a chance to try it out on the range. It fired 10 rounds at 25 yds inside of a dime, which is good enough for these 71 yr old eyes. I used Ely Match EPS ammo. I'll save the high velocity ammo for my 10-22.
"Remington 600" thanks for selling me the Lyman peep sight. It makes all the difference in the world.
Again, thanks to all of you for your assistance.
