dating my model 6 ?

Post by JR_longshot »

I am currently restoring a model 6... just curious as to when it was made. There is a # on the under side of barrel but slightly wore off.
24 24 74 it looks like there may have been an S in front of this number S 24 24 74 ????

also did they make a #6 with this type of fore stock, or did someone replace this ?

According to Remington records, your M/6 was made in 1914. The fore-arm has been replaced.

It looks like the forearm and stock have both been replaced. The first stamping looks like a number 5, so the date maybe wrong if that was not used.

The first stamping is an "S" as were all M/6 22s of that era. If it was a "5" it would mean a 5 million serial #. M/6 serial numbers have not been found above 460,000.
