Remington-Keene

Can anyone tell me if a Remington-Keene cocks when you open the action? I have a Frontier 45-70 USID and the hammer falls when I close the action. Thanks TJ

The Keene action is unlocked by the upturn of the bolt handle and the empty casing is extracted and ejected by the rearward motion of the bolt. When approaching its most rearward position the magazine elevator raises a fresh cartridge up from the tubular magazine below the barrel. The forward motion of the bolt seats the cartridge in the chamber, placing the external hammer in the "safe" half-cock position. To fire, the shooter manually cocks the hammer. The magazine is reloaded by inserting a cartridge through the trap in front of the trigger guard, into the spring-loaded magazine well. A magazine cut-off on the left side of the receiver allowed the gun to function as a single-shot, until the contents of the magazine were needed.

Hope this helps,
