Model 12A rifle

Post by oconeescout »

I have a remington model 12A rifle serial #8423. I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me the date of manufacture. The rifle belonged to my great uncle. Thanks to everyone.

You definatley have a first year model 12 1909. Its probably chambered for 22 Long Rifle only right.

There were 14,286 M/12s made in the first year, so yours is definitely 1909. It should be chambered for LONG RIFLE, not S L LR. It should have a steel inner magazine tube instead of brass.

Thanks to Remington and John for the great imformation on my model 12A rifle. The barrel is stamped 22 long rifle and it does have a steel tube. I have had the rifle for about ten years now and probably only fired a couple dozen long rifles. So John and Remington can the rifle handle longs and shorts? I plan to hopefully to leave the rifle to my son. Once more many thanks.

Longs and shorts will work, but you should use standard velocity ammo, not the high vel that is most commonly found. It will cost a bit more, but the M/12 was designed and made in the era of the lower pressure ammo. Target ammo should be fine.
