Model 141: Feature or Bug?
Model 141: Feature or Bug?
Acquired a neat old 141 that's been restocked with showstopping fiddleback walnut and sports a 2 3/4 X Redfield (post and crosshair) in a Williams sidemount, puts three 200 grain .35 Rem softpoints into an inch and a half at 100 yds! Here's the question. As soon as the striker falls, the slide handle can be retracted to open the bolt. Is that normal, or should there be a device that keeps the bolt from opening until the slide handle is moved slightly forward? Most pump actions I've used keep the slide retained in the forward position as the gun recoils; the shooter must relax his grip on the slide before it will release. Having the action open under recoil is disconcerting to me, and I wonder if this is normal for a model 141. Fred in Lakewood, CO

Once you fire the gun the pump will release to cycle a new round. Maybe your reaction to the recoil your pulling the pump back.
