Need help identifying a Rem Shotgun

Post by mountainmanmark »

Hello,
I would appreciate anyone's help in identifying my grandfathers old Remington shotgun. It is a side by side with 2 hammers and 2 triggers. On either side of the receiver it say's "REMINGTON ARMS CO."
On the spacer between the 2 barrels it says "REMINGTON ARMS CO" and the line underneath that reads "ILION, N.Y. U.S.A."
The barrels are 30" long and when you remove the forearm you see the numbers "296" and then off a little but towards the receiver but still on the barrel is a small 8. On the metal piece in the forearm I see the number 296 again and then the number 86966. I would truly appreciate anyone's help regarding info about this gun. It was my grandfathers and I can remember him using it in the 50's. It's probably not worth a whole lot but has great sentimental value to me. Thank you all in advance,
Mark
