1903A4 Remington
1903A4 Remington
I have a 1903A4 Remington #34100xx. I have been told that the trigger guard is not original since it is cast rather than stamped steel. I found out from this forum that Remington did make 1903's. I wonder if they used some leftover parts on my gun. The butt plate is also cast. Thank you.
Re: 1903A4 Remington
I have had the gun since 1966. The guy I bought it from had just bought it through the NRA. He cut the stock off to sporterize it. The cut down stock I have is a C type. The metal butt plate is not stamped but is cast. Also there is a R stamped on the side of the trigger guard assembly. That is what makes me believe that it is original. I was at the Remington museum in the seventies and saw a 1903A4 in their display. I told the curator that I had one like it. Up till that time I hadn't known that it was a 1904A4 rather than a 1903A3. He mentioned that he had written a book about Springfields. I wish I had looked to see if the trigger guard was stamped or cast. I'm going to have to go back and look.
