I have come across a unique situation and possibly a unique gun. I am a FFL dealer and ordered a Remington XCR 300 RUM for a customer from a wholessale distributor and when the rifle arrived everything looked good until I opened the box. The label on the box showed the gun to be just what I ordered a standard XCR in 300 Rem Ultra Mag but the gun inside was a SS 257 Weatherby mag. I checked the serial # on the gun and the box and they matched. Also the rifle has a SPS stock in AP camo with Rocky Mountain Elf Foundation hang tags on it. It also has the floor plate engraved "Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation 25YR Anniversary". From what I can find Remington has not made a RMEF gun in the 257 Weatherby caliber and the 25yr anniversary guns that are out (which is this year) are 30/06 caliber. I contacted Remington and gave them the serial number on the gun and they told me that the gun is a XCR in 300 RUM just as the box label says. So somehow I have a rifle made in a RMEF gun with the 25 yr Anniversary marks that was never a caliber made in a RMEF gun and not the caliber of the 25 yr anniversay guns in a box with the correct serial number matching the gun but a label and Remington saying it should be a different caliber.
My question is has anyone ever come across something like this before?
Thank you,
Micheal

Yes they do offer or did a 257 Weatherby in the 700 that you descibed.(RMEF) Sometimes not all the rifles like that are all cataloged. It sounds like the desciption on the box other then the serial number just may have been mismarked.
Re: Remington 700 Unique
I have looked and seen lists of the calibers that were made in the RMEF guns that were production ones and that caliber is not listed anywhere. I have found one 257 Weatherby that was made for the RMEF as a raffle gun (raffled this year in Mar I believe) but it did not have the floorplate engraved they had the medalian in the stock. I would agree with you that the box may have been mismarked if Remington did not tell me that the gun with that serial number as per their records and the records they filled with the BATF when it was manufactured is a 300 RUM and not a 257 Weatherby. The only guns I have seen listed or pictures of that have the floorplate engraved with the 25yr anniversary are the 30/06 RMEF guns that came out this year. I did see there was a special run of SPS rifles with the black stocks, some with gray laminated stocks, and CDL's that had fluted barrels in a 257 Weatherby but cant find any RMEF guns except the one. If you have any links or anything that says otherwise I would love to see it.

Re: Remington 700 Unique
Ok yours is special. There is also a couple special ones here at the local gun shop.
Re: Remington 700 Unique
I would love the number to the shops so I can talk to them and get more info on mine. I guess that just shows that Remington QA has really gone down hill to let a gun get out as a different caliber that it is registered as. Maybe that is why the ATF said they were not going to talk to them about it even though it is a violation on Remingtons part to let the gun out that way. They must come to expect it from Remington
now.
now.

Re: Remington 700 Unique
Well you already have the proof in front of you that the serial no. Is logged as a 300. You don't need the forum to answere that I hope. It wouldn't benifit me if your gun was worth a million dollars or not. There are guns floating out there that were never suppose to even leave the factory, but they some how do. I have seen the RMEF with the scroll work in person chambered for the 257. Did Remington ask you to return a gun that was registered to be something else.if a distributer can get enough orders together to make a certain rifle Remington will make them.
Re: Remington 700 Unique
Well with out your help I found out what my rifle is. It is a Remington SPS that was special ordered for the RMEF for there progressive raffles only. this gun was not offered for sale to any Gunshops. All the ones 380 that were made were to go to RMEF directly for the raffles around the country at their banquets for the 25yr anniversary.
If you go back to look my question was not if this rifle could be logged as a 300 RUM it was if anyone had come across anything like this before. Since you were so helpful I feel I never need to come here again.
Thank you.
