remington shotgun

Post by slhisme »

I have an old remington double barrel 12 gauge shotgun with serial # Q394269. It says remington arms and then looks like an o and a backwards c, looks like they got the co, backwards on it. I am trying to find out how old it is and if the o reversed c means something.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Your gun is a Remington Model 1900 from the last years production in 1910, when Remington got out of the breakaction gun business, and sold their entire inventory to Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware Co. in St Louis. Remington saw the future and knew they had winners in their John M. Browning designed Autoloading Gun (later Model 11) and their John D. Pedersen designed Repeating Gun (Later Model 10).

Charles Semmer devotes a short chapter in his wonderful book on Remington Doubles to the "OC." marked guns. He attributes it to a damaged roll stamp and reports seeing it on 1898, 1907 and 1910 vintage guns. Semmer stated he had seen at least nine guns so marked. It might add a bit to a guns value to some Remington collectors, but the overall condition and originality of the gun will play more in value then whether or not it is marked "OC."

Do you know where we might find a firing spring for it? It broke and nobody seems to know where to get a spring. It is shaped like a wishbone. It is the spring for the back trigger.

Thanks so much for the information about the age of the gun. My husband has been trying to find someone to fix the firing spring with no luck.

We live in the Houston area. If you know a reliable gunsmith in the area, we would be grateful for the information. We took it to a gun shop on the north side of town. That is how the spring got broken to begin with, so we won't be taking it back there.

Thanks for your help

Wisners is probably your best bet for a new spring for an old Remington double --
