Remington 870 Wingmaster Question
Remington 870 Wingmaster Question
I recently inherited a Remington 870 Wingmaster. Remington dated the shotgun for me as a 1963 model. I was told that the stock and forearm on it are not the orignals and are not Wingmaster stocks. Does anyone know how I can find out what stock and forarm design should be on it. I would like to find a set that is correct. Thanks, Chris
Re: Remington 870 Wingmaster Question
Starting in 1963 the Wingmasters got stocks very similar to the then new 1100. Fleur de Lis, impressed checkering, but simpler than after the revision in 1979 (?). There were no 'lines' of uncheckered wood across the pistol grip panels. If you look at the 870 history

and go down to the picture of the 1976 Bicentennial Commemorative, that is what the checkering on your gun originally looked like, if it is indeed a 1963 model. I would also go here

and double check the date. A lot of the information that has been gotten from Remington via phone calls lately is quite suspect. I suspect some of them are getting tired of it. If it is not in a letter, on Remington letterhead paper, I would not trust anything 100%.

What could have happened... did.
