Model 4S question

Post by J.Terry »

My buddy has 1902 model 4s it has a take down screw an marble peep sights. How can he tell if its military or boy scout? He says it has something at barrel end of stock maybe for a bi-pod?

The 4S was first offered in 1913, so was obviously not available in 1902. The American Boy Scout and Military Models were stamped on the receiver as such. None came with a peep sight. None came with a take down screw. The item you mention near the muzzle is probably a bayonet lug.

A photo is needed to go any further. Please include the barrel length. It sounds like a put-together rifle.

Thanks for the quick reply Mr. Gyde after research further yesterday i figured out it wasn't a 1902 but a 1913 or after. I'll have him check the receiver stamp an as far as peep sights an take down screw sounds like a put together rifle to me also. I'll try an get some photos to see exactly what he's got. Thanks again for the quick reply.!!!
