Model 11 question

Post by EdW »

My dad's model 11's barrel code is WTT. (He bought it in 1951). According to the REM Society's chart, W = August and TT = 1948. I thought the Model 11 was discontinued in 1947. What am I missing? What year is it?

FYI, serial # is 809348 and it has a flying duck on the left side of the chamber and a pheasant on the right side of the chamber, and it has a 28.5 inch barrel.

I'd appreciate any help/advice. Thanks!

P.S. It's a 12 gauge (below).

The Model 11 and The Sportsman are still the shotguns in the Remington catalogue dated May 1, 1948. I don't have one, but I seem to recall the Model 11-48 and the Sportsman 48 first appear in a catalogue dated October 1948. Model 11s and The Sportsmans probably took several years to filter through the jobber/wholesal/retail pipeline. Remington quit cataloguing the Model 17 in 1933 but they were still finishing them up and selling out of inventory in 1941.

I think I hear you - are saying that even though the Model 11 was discontinued in 1947, it could still have a 1948 manufacturing date? Please advise and thanks for your help.

Most sources list 1948 as the end of production. I see that Remington's website says 1947, but that appears to contradict all other sources. They also list the 11-48 as starting production in 1949. I think "Big Green's" website is incorrect for these 2 models.

Model 11's were produced into 1948, and would have been sold "New in the box" at dealers for a few years after that. Some people now say "New, Old Stock".
