Can I find out about the history of my model 700?

Post by Steve_C »

I recently bought a second-hand model 700 in 22-250 which I'm very happy with, but would like to know more about it if possible. I'll happily post up the serial number if that is permitted.

Here it is;

As far as I know, it hasn't been used much, and there is no obvious wear and tear. From the serial number, I have established that it was built in 2000. Would it have been made to order? Would it have been exported to the UK straight away? Is there any way of finding out how many previous owners it had? What about manufacturing details / quality control checks / certification etc. - is any of this available? Any information or potential sources would be gratefully received.

Whatever that is on the end of the barrel is definatley aftermarket. Other then that it seems to be a basic 700 with the addition of a differant recoil pad.

The thing on the barrel is a sound moderator (silencer / suppressor). It's one of the better ones as it shrouds the barrel to reduce the overall length of the rifle - much better for hunting.

I had wondered about the recoil pad, so it's interesting that you've spotted it. To be honest, it looks a bit of a lash-up. and I was wondering what the standard one on this stock looks like and whether it's possible to get them as spares.

Well its very hard to tell from the angle of the picture, but it almost appears that the original may still be there. Is it inbetween the stock and the added pad. If not you can easily order one from Remington.
