Model 1900 photos

Post by Gregdownunder »

Hi all,

This seems like a good place to ask a few questions about a model 1900 I purchased recently.
We see few American guns over here, however this one came up at a very reasonable price so I took a punt and bought it.
I must say that in spite the fact I gather the model 1900 was a more basic model the fit and finish on this one is really pretty good.

On the barrel flats is "KD" which I gather denotes Damascus barrels, however there is no "E" in spite the fact it has ejectors (which work very well )
There is a stylized "JP"? and also a star, does this denote anything in particular?
The gun is quite heavy at 8 1/4 pounds.
Another thing of note is the two piece stock.I have never seen this before and at first I thought it may be an old repair, however on closer inspection I believe its always been there.
I have yet to strip it right down but I imagine its largely the same as an Anson and deeley action?
The barrels appear two strip, would these be Belgian and did Remington braize or soft solder the ribs?
The gun while well used is in good all-round order with some light pitting in the right tube only.
It does need a spring for the fore end locking mechanism and I would like to replace the rubber butt plate with a repro of the original.
It appears no wood was removed so hopefully one of the repro ones should fit straight on.

TIA

Thank you for your prompt reply.
The photo does not show it the best but if you look at the stock about the middle at the butt you can see a line that runs from there through to the POW grip. This is a seperate piece of wood.Ill see if I can get a better photo.

Any ideas where I could find the appropriate buttplate?
The stock is finished flat,no curve at the top .

I forgot to mention, chambers are a whisker under 2 3/4,would this be original?

Cheers,

Greg.
