Bean Bag Shotgun?

I want to buy a pump shotgun just for home protection. I don't live in the Bronx and don't have to fight off a bunch of gangs, but I do want something pretty serious.

My cousin recommended a Remington 870. Only catch is, I'd rather have it support some kind of non-lethal ammo, such as bean bags.

Is this possible? Or is this only available for law enforcement?

Maybe there is another kind of ammo I can use instead?

Your cousin is pretty smart. The Remington will support any 12 gauge ammunition you can find. I do not know what is available non-lethal. I don't want to hit someone in the eye defending my life and have them sue me. I prefer only one witness. Me.

They sell them, web search will find fairly easy. There's fancy round stuff that's supposed to be "ballistic" or other shells loaded with a fabric pouch filled with #9 shot.
I wouldn't buy a shotgun if I didn't want them dead I just buy a taser. Mine however is loaded with 0 buck and my only question is if I reload so I can just use the shop vac.

I seriously doubt the idiot breaking in to your house is going to be using bean bags. I don't know about you but I prefer to have the edge over whoever just climbed in my window who has already proven that he's not the smartest. Me personally a shotgun will definatly do the job only if you can easily manuver it threw the house.

- I don't need to kill someone to be protected. From what I've seen, bean bags hurt a hell of a lot. Even if someone had a gun, I don't see why I would need to kill them to be able to wound them enough for them to drop the gun.

- There's just something about that sound of hearing you pump the shotgun. You don't even have to see it to be scared shitless. Plus, most tasers don't have multiple rounds. Tasers are also more expensive, and not nearly as intimidating.

Actually there is a silly reality movie out where a group of guys do some really silly things. One of there scits was shooting each other with bean bags. All I would suggest is have the gun full or rounds and dont stop shooting them. I wouldnt rely on it. The effect they had on them was less then being shot in the face with pepper spray. I am sure it hurts, but again I wouldnt rely on it. The sound of a big dog growling will set you on end just as much as pumping a shotgun.
