Reminton 700 VTR .308 Scope Questions ...

Post by vtr_guide_me »

I just purchased the Remington 700 VTR .308 and have no idea about scopes and rings and bases and MOA, etc. My friend is recommending a Badger short action, ZERO cant 7.4 oz base. I'm ready to purchase this but there are also 20 and 30 MOA versions available and am not sure which is the best for my purposes (hunting deer in the southeastern US). I've also been doing research on scopes and have gotten many varying opinions. Friends say go crazy and get 20x zoom with 50mm lens. "Experts" online say 'less is more' and say something around the 3-9x/40mm range to be enough because it is better to see something close very clearly than something at the farthest distance. I need help because I want to get this right as all of these parts are pretty expensive. Thank you to anyone able to help! :D

A 308 deer rifle will be fine with a good 3-9 scope like Leupold. Warne mounts are my favored brand. But nothing wrong with Burris or Leupold mounts. I do like the idea of the Burris rings with the plastic inserts.
