!858 Pistol
!858 Pistol
Some years ago I received a 1858 pistol that has been passed to eldest son in my family for a number of generations. I would like to get more information on it if possible. The serial number both under the loading lever and under the left grip is 112586. There is a "J" on the trigger gaurd behind the screw, a "7" on each side of the screw under the trigger on the frame and a "G" under the right side grip. On the top of the barrel there are three lines of engraving the first reading "Patented September 14 1858 the other two refer to the Remmington Company and Location are very hard to read. I would appreciated any information on this pistol.

Re: !858 Pistol
Address is
PATENTED SEPT 13, 1858
E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILLION, NEW YORK, U.S.A.
NEW MODEL
I prefer the name New Model Army because I hear people call the Beals a 1858 as well.
The letters are sub-inspector marks and the inspector stamp might still be visible near the bottom of the left grip with is initials inside the cartouche. Other then a major handgun of the civil war that's about all I know....
