Model 12c Questions
Model 12c Questions
I've just recently inherited what I believe to be a Remington Model 12C (24" octagon barrel, usual Remington Arms patent dates on top of barrel, and.22 short, long,or long rifle on left side of barrel near reciever, SN 75655) My question is trying to figure out the production date-I've broken it down and discovered a D 21 on the under side of the barrel as well as a H S, what appears to be two punch marks, and the #3-all close to the reciever. Any answers would be greatly appreciated...also, any thoughts or suggestions of what the best ammo is to send through these old rifles?
Re: Model 12c Questions
Your rifle was made in 1911, before the date codes were used. The earliest M/12 with a date code will be near serial #575,000. The "3" may mean the rifle was sent back to Remington for repair, but there should be a date code indicating the month and year of repair. The other marks are proof and testing stamps.
If the bore is good and the action tight I suggest using standard velocity 22 LR ammo.
