It looks like you have your finger on the correct source. I've been trying to correlate events from when I bought the rifle about 54 years ago, but it is very tough, especially now that I'm 84. Thank you for the time and effort you spent with me on this question. Much appreciated. Ron

Thanks for info 600RemGuy. Yes, about the proofs, but the reading of the S/N on the left side of the receiver can't be right since I bought the rifle long before 1970.

The date table doesn't seem to apply to the 700 BDL I bought new in the mid-60s. Other than the "proof" marks, there are only two numbers (64) on the left side of the barrel. No letters. If it helps, the S/N is 6360035. (270 cal). Any thoughts? THX
