Re: Rolling Block salvage
Well I'm imppressed and I'd be willing to bet after it's done it'll be a shooter to boot. I'm a handy kinda guy but I'm always impressed by the craftsmanship I see in the process of bringing a gun back to it's prime, A lot of work but in my opinion worth every bit

Re: Rolling block Identification
Try a 43 spanish, but the best is always take a casting. But a 45 70 will bottom out on a spanish. But it's in your best interest to cast it and compare it to specs remembering that the chambers in these old guns can be a tad loose. Bill

Re: So I have this roller...
That casting looks the same as the two I did on mine. Mine wound up being reformado I have a mold for mine since I have both a 43 spanish and a couple reformados. Same barrel so same bullet. I have them at my shop and check tomorrow to be sure. I really can't remember the size but again have it at ...

Re: Rolling Block identification help
The sad thing is somebody on this forum probably knows what it is but for some reason people read these posts but really don't seem to want to answer them (that said with a few exceptions) I'm just a beginner at this but I'll at least try to the extent of my knowledge. I looked through the cartridge ...

Re: Rolling Block identification help
It's not a 43 spanish nor reformado if that helps don't believe it's an egyptian The good news is this is the very best place to sort it out. Just went through the process myself good luck with it. Bill

Re: Help with value of NY Rolling Block
You'll see them all over the price spectrum hard to get any real idea of the condition from pictures. I try and buy in person not easy to do all the time but since there was a million of them they pop up all the time. Before I'd pay 20% i,d post it on some sites and see if there's any interest ...

Re: Help with value of NY Rolling Block
I love these guns I actively buy every decent one that's not a crazy amount of money. Just paid 800 dollars for the same gun and they look to be in about equal shape The one I bought may be slightly cleaner but slightly. It's true as rolling blocks go there's not a ton of them around from N.Y> but ...

Re: new guy with rolling block questions
Supposedly the only change was reaming it and using a jacketed bullet and of course different brass but the barrel was untouched. So logically (a word that gets me in trouble sometimes) it should shoot the cast bullet just fine

new guy with rolling block questions
My little mystery is solved turns out after casting and talking to anybody that would put up with me my two rolling blocks are spanish reformado. Brass chambers perfectly and the casting is the same dimension wise as the brass. Next question can I use the same bullet as in the 43 spanish as well ...

Re: Hepburn project
I'm beginning to see a pattern here (lol). beautiful work just shows what can be done with these old guns if you're willing to spend the time and money bringing them back rather than dismiss them as not worth it. Bill

Re: Hepburn project
If it shoots anything as well as it looks you'll do well. Has to be pleasurable just shooting it knowing it's truly your gun. Not many people are willing to work that hard to be able to have a gun that looks as good as it does and I'd be willing to bet it'll shoot just as well. Congrats on a job ...
