Ammo is kinda hard to find and expensive when you do so you will just have to shoot what you can find . No currently manufactured ammo will hurt it.

Sounds like something is still gummed up. I have a few and a 141 but have had no problems with them . Get a factory repair manual reprint off ebay from Cornell Publishing, might give you some ideas. nambujim will see this eventually and will know where to look, be patient .

I also shoot cast as much as I can but what Jim is telling you is true with these particular rifles. You can shoot cast but after a while you will have feeding issues and need to take the feed system apart for some major cleaning. Mixed numbers are not normal. First year m14's were not drilled , 14 1/2 I am not sure about. Have you checked for proper feeding with cartridges ? Mixed guns quite often have feeding issues.
