I think you have a New York State militia rifle. They were 50-70
caliber. They also had a unique feature. The hammer will drop
to half-cock when the breach is closed.

It looks like the New York State cartouche on the wrist.

Your chamber dimensions are consistent with 43 Spanish.
From the tang markings, it sounds like a fourth type frame
Flat sided.

To be absolutely sure it is a No. 1, measure the thickness of
the frame. It should be somewhere around 1.320" +/- .010"
