Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

1955 yes. Your 370426 is between
3699xx 722-244 E B 10/55
371xxx 721-3006 D B 9/55

The B indicates 1955. The letter before B indicates month.
Your should have a E or D as in EB or DB.
These letters are on the left side in the chamber area.

To all
I just noticed the date on the first post.
I have been doing this list for 16 years. Wow!

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg

281xx 300Savage is one of the earliest 722 on our list. A=Mar, TT=1948.

Other marks are proofs, and assembly marks

Re: Model 721 family heirloom

There is a long time 721 270 in my family too. Dad got it new in 1949 or 50. For many many deer hunts, it has passed from Dad to me to an Uncle and now my cousin. Other Remington 721s and one 725 is all I ever had a successful hunt with. Sometimes I did carry a Winchester Model 70 (pre 64 of course)...

Re: Model 700 rear receiver ring height change compared to 722?

Yes I just found the info in the Lacy book page 36-37. 1974 and newer 700s, the rear receiver ring is .100 lower than the front ring. Pre 1974 (including 721, 722, 725) the rear receiver ring is .117 lower than the front ring. I knew I had seen it somewhere. Now how do we identify bases for the olde...

Re: Model 700 rear receiver ring height change compared to 722?

I will answer my own question. I obtained a much newer 700 SA. That Weaver one piece rib fits and does not have the gap at the rear ring. I was right in my recall of seeing somewhere that the rear receiver rings of Model 700 rifles did change. The newer 700 has a taller rear receiver ring. Meaning t...

Model 700 rear receiver ring height change compared to 722?

Somewhere I recall seeing that at some time Model 700 changed the height of the rear receiver ring. This would require different bases than what worked on the 721 and 722 rifles. I just can not remember where. The story that reminded me is I just got a 1970ish 700 308 rifle. I have many 2 piece base...

Re: Model 722 advice

Your 2535x 722 300Savage appears to be the oldest yet on our serial number list https://www.remingtonsociety.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=410&p=854#p854 It sits between two rifles dated 11/47 and 2/48, I have one of the 300S on the list dated 4/48 Soft point bullets are adequate for Whitet...
