Model 700 Manufacure date

Post by erndog »

I have purchased a Model 700 30-06. The letters on the side of the barrel are D W N with the numbers 41 following. I'm a little confused on the charts I've seen on line. Any Help? Also is there a web sight to check guns by the serial numbers?? Thanks, erndog

Judging what letters you gave your gun could be made in either in 1966 or 1972. If you have an aluminum buttplate your gun was made in early 60s. You should also have little spades impressed in your checkering if its a BDL version.

I also have a different date designation than the standard. My .270 model 700 ADL has "U Q 83" stamped on the left side of the barrel. I'd like to add a synthetic stock to lighten my rig up a bit. (I have a Redfield Ultimate Illuminator mounted on it which weighs me down a good amount.)
