Data base for serial numbers?

Post by jgr1974 »

Just wondering if Remington has a data base for serial numbers as other manufactureres do? I am trying to find info on my modified 81!

John Henwood's book "the Great Eight and Eighty-One" has serial number data for both models. Give us most of the numbers, and I'll look it up in my copy.

Walt,

Thank you for the reply to both posts! My serial number is 18490. Does the book speak of the conversions? I must have one. Will buy one asap.

Your gun shipped from the factory sometime in 1942. A production code on the left side of the barrel up where it joins the receiver will give you the exact month and year your gun was made up. The months correspond to the letters BLACKPOWDERX. With X being December, R being November etc. The year codes can be found on this website if you look.
