Model 30-S Express in 300 H&H Magnum?

Post by SOGdealer »

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but this seems to be the best place for the questions I have. I just became the happy owner of a Model 30-S Express in 300 H&H. I was minding my own business, working my own table at a local gunshow, and right next to me at the next table is this awesome mauser action rifle, just staring me down and working its siren song on me. I actually didn't even touch it or pick it up until the last 10 minutes of the last day, that was the last little nudge I needed. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who can relate. Anyways, I own several other mauser action rifles, but I had never actually seen a Model 30 before. I've done some research and I don't think they were originally made in 300 H&H? Anyways, I was looking for any info that can be provided. My best guess is that this was somebody's custom piece. The back story is that it belonged to a good old guy who had it forever and then he passed on. His wife lived on for many years after he had passed, as women tend to do, and then she decided to sell off his guns, as women tend to do. (My wife will kick me for that one) So, if I can figure out how to post some pics I'll get them up on here. Thanks.

Nice rifle.About two years ago,I got my grandfathers 1927 Remington Model 30 Express (30-06).It's since been re-blued and I sanded down the original stock and re-stained it.Looks good.I even added a Bushnell 3x9x40 scope. The gun functions and cycles perfectly. But I would like a different stock like the one on yours.I have had no luck finding one.The only stocks I can find are for the Enfield's and I don't care to much for them.Do you know where the seller of your gun got that one,or where I can get one?Thank you.

Nice looking piece, but definitely a custom job. It had to have been re-chambered and restocked. Take care of it and enjoy it.......somebody obviously cared about it before you got it. I have sort of a similar story concerning a Model 721 that had been re-chambered to .308 Norma Mag (from 30-06) many years ago. I knew the old gentleman who owned it and it was pretty ratty looking when I got it......but it spent some time at a gunsmith's shop and I refinished the original stock.......and it turned into a nice looking gun. In a chance meeting (because he had moved out of state and was back for a brief visit with relatives), I did happen to show the finished product to the original owner before he passed away. He had developed throat cancer and couldn't speak, but it brought tears to his eyes and for knowing that it was going to be in good hands.

Nice gun but it's not a Mauser. M30's were made from the US P1917 Enfield, a different action than the Mauser. Someone probably rechambered a M30 from 30-06 to .300 H&H.
