rolling block rifle identification

Post by fishcommandos »

I need help in identifying a rolling block rifle. (take down model)
I believe that it is 22 cal., but there is no identifying marks to verify.
22 inch octagon barrell. The only markings are on top of the barrel:
Remington Arms Co. Ilion, N.Y.U.S.A. and on the bottom of the barrel (receiver end) it is stamped A1 Any help in identifying would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to go out on a limb and ID based on barrel length alone. According to Fladerman's Guide....... the No 2 R/B had either a 24" or 26" bbl "standard". The No4 R/B had a 22.5" or a 24" bbl. The No6 had a 20" bbl. So, not seeing the rifle I would guess that it is the No4.
The No2 has a curve in the receiver where the receiver meets the butt stock. The No4 has this junction a straight line. The No6 is not really a rolling block and is of much lighter weight constructiuon.
