Advice on gun finish.
Advice on gun finish.
I have a Model 1882 Grade 4 shotgun that from reading some of the other posts is in fair condition. All of the parts except for the hammer screws are original and in working order. The problem is that the metalwork and the stocks are all heavily oxidezed, dark brown. I believe that the gun has Damascus barrells but due to the "patina" you can't see the pattern. What if anything can I do to restore the finish?
Re: Advice on gun finish.
Hi,I would like to see some pictures or you could try this.To start
Here is what I would do, use 000 or 0000 steel wool with oil to clean the barrels.Should help bring the damascus patten out. Do not sand or refinish the wood that would ruin it.
