early Model 1893 No. 3 Help
I have read through all the posts here relating to the model 1893 shotguns. I have determined that the shotgun I have, which belonged to my husband's grandfather is the Model 1893, 12 GA, and I believe it is the No. 3. The only markings we can find other than the Remington Arms Co Ilion NY, is the number 1254 appearing where others have indicated the serial number should be, and a random P and a W. I do not find any patent date or other information anywhere on it. If this number 1254 is the serial number, would this indicate a very early production of this model since the serial #'s for this model began at 1000? Any info is much appreciated.

I'm not sure about the number you have, but there should be one on the receiver where the barrel fits against it. Should be able to see this when the gun is broken down. I had a similar situation with the newer verion the model 9. I called the Remington company and they were able to trace the # and give me a manufactors date. They also confirmed the model by my discription. Hope this helps.

Yes, that is where the number appears, so I believe it is the serial number. I think I will call them. Thanks.
