241 speedmaster high grade?

Post by reb »

I recently saw a remington speedmaster that was 98% condition. The unusual part was that the stock and forend were checkered and figured like a high grade gun and there was a shield inleted into the bottom of the stock for a monogram but it was blank. The checkering on the wrist came all the way over the top of the wrist. The forend had ribbons with checkering around them. There was no engraving on the gun. What model would this be and what would it be worth? Thanks, Ross

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. It sounds like you are looking at a M/241 that someone has checkered. I doubt that it is factory work. The M/241-B has checkering, but is not engraved. They are stamped with the "B" after the model # on the side of the receiver. Checkering could be ordered from the factory, but the pattern you describe makes me believe it was done outside the factory.
