1873 Hammer Lifter

Post by cheemo »

I have recently aquired a 1873 hammer lifter. Grade 2. in fairly poor condition. The stock is busted off. I have applied generous amounts of penetrating oil and now can open and close the gun. I am wondering if spending the money restocking the gun and fixing whatever problems wouod be worth it?

Hi, I would not put any money in the gun find a good one buy it. Keep the one you have or sell it. I prefer one of the other Lifter Models over the 1873. Its you call..

I dont have anything invested in this one yet. Found it hanging on a garage wall and aquired it for nuthin. Im not interested in fixing it to use it but to sell it. Beautiful old gun it is. Done some research on the 1873 and it was the first shotguns made by E Remington and Sons. It would be a shame if this gun wasn't restored :(
