Cat it be Model 07?

Post by jonas@iwarsson.com »

I have inherited an old Remington rifle, but I can't find any information about it. The license for that weapon and it tells that it's a "Remington m/07" rifle, caliber 12.7 mm (=.50 inch). But I can't find that rifle on any Remington home page.

I can see two patent dates on the rifle: NOV. 15th 1864, APRIL 17th 1866, but no patent number.

Can someone please help me?

We need more information such as type of action. Remington made Rolling Blocks in .50 cal. and a few countries were licensed to manufacture the same in 12mm (Sweden and Belgium come to mind).

Rolling Blocks

Yes, it is a rolling block fron Sweden/Norway. The site http://www.militaryrifles.com/Norway/3rd67NS-Rem.htm gives a picture of the weapon. I beleve it is from the late 1860-s. But does anyone know of documents that shows information of the rifle or the block?

Swede Rolling Block

Sounds like you have what is known (in English) as the "Rifle pattern 1867, made in America" based on the patent dates on the tang. If the barrel is made by Husqvarna or Carl Gustav there is slightly different nomenclature. Try http://www.mtek.chalmers.se/~m95perm/vapen/ for complete info on the Swede R/B's. Once there you can follow links to other Swede sites on these rifles. If the link above does not work just type in "rolling block" or "Remiington rolling block". and look for Swede sites. That is how I found the info. Good luck!!!!
