Is the P51 safe to shoot?

Post by steves1017 »

I have a nicely-blued P51 and would like to carry it occasionally. Is it okay to shoot? Any suggestions about ammo, etc.?

We can't advise you about shooting since we can't handle the gun. Shoot at your own risk. Jay Huber RSA

I have one that is my carry gun. The .380 ammo is hard to get - Williams up here in Michigan is selling it for $32 a box. I picked up 4 boxes for $18 at a Ace Hardware that was out in the boondocks- must have been old stock. Mine seems to shoot where I'm looking as long as I don't try to aim down the barrel. It's just " point and pull ". I really like it. Paul

I shoot very light reloads in my Model 51 because I don't want to stress the gun. It is structurally sound and a great shooter. My wife and daughter will be shooting it more than me, unfortunately! Have a knowledgeable gunsmith take a look and see if he/she sees any obvious problems, If no obvious problems, shoot it but be careful and don't shoot very "hot" loads.
