Tom Frye research

Post by exhibitionshooter »

Hello,

Impressed with this group's devotion to Remington. Here we go:

I am a researcher working on a magazine article that will focus on exhibition shooters, namely Tom Frye and Adolph Toepperwein. Mr. Frye was a Remington rep who spent his career in Ohio, Chatsworth, Calif., and Billings, Mont. As many know, he performed in an endurance shoot in 1959 near Reno, Nev., when he fired the Nylon 66 at 100,010 wooden blocks thrown into the air and missed six.

Of particular interest to me is photos that document the '59 shoot, especially any photos that show how the targets were presented (in other words, angle of toss, positioning of throwers, etc.). I also hear that some celebrities and TV camera crews attended at some point during the 13 or 14 days Mr. Frye was firing.

Also, I noticed on this website that a research team produced some sort of archival representation of all things Remington in 1991. I wonder if that effort produced any sort of records showing employment of field reps/exhibition shooters, how many guns or how much ammo they sold through their tours. Or, how about what sort of market share Remington built at certain years.

Know anything about this? Let me know. I'll follow this forum for responses.

Many thanks, Tim
