remington 870 special edition

i have a chance at a 870 SE with the straight stock, 21" barrel in 12g 3". made in 86. they want $300 for it. anyone have any insight on these? i would want to use it as a bird/slug gun with different chokes. i was wondering if anyone knew how they patterned with the short barrel and how an improved cylinder would throw rifled slugs

I don't know how well slugs would work out of it, but I have a model 870 with a 28" barrel and it works wonderfully. Excellent for dove, quail, pheasant, pretty much all birds. I can imagine that slugs would work well in it also. $300 is a bargain, mine was $580. If you get it, enjoy!!
