1100 Trap Identification

Post by workingr »

I recently purchased a older 1100 for my son to shoot in his trap league. I am having trouble finding the date of manufacture along with a few other things.

Details:
The number on the side of the receiver is N137511 V

It has "TRAP" etched on the right side of the receiver.

There is no serial number on the barrel.

The stock is "cast-off".

30" Full Choke barrel.

The gun is in remarkebly good condition, and does not appear to have been shot much after I inspected it. No obvious signs of wear. I can't find any info on any 1100's that came with a cast-off stock. Was this an option years ago? I own several shotguns, but this is the nicest one I have ever shot. The cast-off stock is an all together different feel. Now I want another one for me. Can you buy custom stocks like this? if so, where?

Thanks

You can call Remington and get the date of manufacture if the barrel does not have a date code on it.
To the best of my knowledge, Remington did not manufacture stocks with any 'cast', except thru the Custom Shop, however I have seen quite a few homemade versions thru the years, and as one might expect, most of those were on Trap guns. All that is required is to put the receiver in a padded vise and, supporting the stock well, bend the point of attachment inside the rear of the receiver slightly. Care is required, you don't need much at all, and you could ruin a perfectly good gun if you are not careful. I have also seen the 'cast' taken back out before re-selling the gun. I am not in any way recommending this practice, only relating what I have seen.
What could have happened... did.
