500 Series Rear sights

Post by LeeEnfield »

I have several 5-teen 22 rifles and love them all. In fact I learned to shoot with a 510, equipped with Lyman front and rear sights, that was made in the month that I was born 79 years ago. I still have it and it drives tacks - - having outshot many expensive target rifles and won several Thanksgiving turkeys over the years. I have only ever seen the screw-on 500 series open rear sights as original installations on these rifles and have wondered about the presence of the dovetail slot that is concealed under the sight. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Also, I have seen mention that some of the 513S models were equipped with the Marbles N0 63 flattop rear sights, but I have never seen one, or even a picture of one. Can anyone tell me more about this? I have two of the 513S rifles, both equipped with Redfield sights. One looks like it came from the factory that way and one clearly was done afterward.

Many thanks.
