Help identifying a Remington Derringer

Post by BFranklin »

Does anyone recognize the below pictured Derringer? I believe it to be a type 4. Serial # L92990. I am no that farmiliar with them and the information is scarce. How can the year of manufacture by identified? What are the grips made from and are they original? Any information would be much appreciated.

Well Type / Model different people define them differently Blue Book one way Flayderman's another.
I call that a 3rd Type 4th Model - but everyone just calls it a UMC.
L92.. is a fairly late number so it's probably at least last 20's or 30's, toward the end they got really goofy with the numbering prefixed with an L9NNNN and then back down to L75nnn going up to what I believe is the last number known L76118. The date stamp code is on the BOTTOM of the lug. I have no idea what that is stamped on the side, maybe the initials of who refinished it. Both the barrel and frame have been refinished and of what I see of the grips they appear to be ivory but not originals.

What is the tell tale sign that it has been refinished? Were they ever made with a blued finish?

man I don't see the date code stamped on the lug, bad eyes I guess.

On the sides of the address line those edges should also be sharp and the color is all wrong. This is not the blue of the barrels and the frame is what happens when you don't know how to blue cast.
