Model 14/141 "Tips" & Parts for Sale!

Post by nambujim »

Parts & Information offered by the "Arrogant Jerk" of the RSA Post 1899 Rifle Forum!

#1 Carrier Dog Springs:
A customer of mine in Minnesota has taken some patterns of the springs I provided
along with some he obtained from a local gunsmith and is making new springs of
what appears to be "quality" stainless steel wire. Before offering them for sale he
sent me some to try out, I purchased a few more, and at this point they seem to
work just fine.

The carrier dog spring is one of those "key" parts to these rifles and ranks as one
pf the most broken/missing parts. If you lined up 20 original springs removed
from rifles you might find two alike, they need to be fit to your particular rifle,
and when I would use originals it was necessary to try 2-3 before you found one
that worked properly. The "dog" should spring back both ways with some vigor.
the new springs are being sold on Ebay for $22.75 delivered.

#2 Model 141 Action Bar Covers:
I have been selling off a few of my inventory on Gunbroker, they aren't cheap, and
these are "the" most oft broken part of the rifle be in a 141 or 14. I have a small
inventory and other than the one on Gunbroker I will sell two others to folks
on the RSA site. Price is $160 delivered in a Small Priority Mail box. The ones
I'm selling are specifically for the 141 but can be used on the 14 but in many
cases fitting might be involved, they are "tricky" and "if" you find you have to
use ANY force then you are doing it wrong. All those I have for sale are in
excellent condition with good strong flanges. Price is for the cover only, screw
is not included. Hard to find part, thus the price!

#3 Tip of the day or maybe the year:
If you have not tried T/M bore cleaner then you are missing out on a super
damn product. This bore cleaner with a Stainless Steel brush can work a
bloody miracle on these old rifles with little effort. Product is available from
Midway, haven't tried Amazon, and it is worth whatever they charge. I got
put onto this product from my "gun writer" friend Charlie Petty who at the time
was testing a bunch of bore cleaners for an article he wrote many years back.
I gave a small bottle of it to Ken Blauch some years back, he referred to it as
"Magic", great stuff BUT use with good ventilation. It doesn't stink but the
spray from it as you pull it out with a brush can make you gag.

Hope some of the above you will find helpful!
